GH
Knives Are Manufactured Using Hand Forged Damascus Steel Blades
Damascus steel, properly made,
is one of the finest cutting tool materials available today. This quality
stems from the use of two or more types of steel, each having it's own
traits and grades of harden ability, toughness, abrasion resistance, etc.
Once combined into multiple alternating layers, heat treated and tempered,
the final product exhibits a strength, toughness and sharpness that cannot
compare with other single steel blades.
The Damascus used in manufacturing
GH Knives comes from 0-1 tool and 1018 steels. The 0-1 tool steel can be
hardened but the 1018 is non-hardening. A blade made from this Damascus
can be left harder as the soft layers tend to cushion and
absorb shock and allow the blade to flex to much greater
extents without breaking. This additional hardness allows the blade to
hold a sharper, longer wearing edge than single steel blades without being
fragile. |
| "Hours of
painstaking care go into the manufacturing of every GH Knife" |
| From the welded Damascus billet,
the blade is hand forged to shape, bringing as many layers as possible to
the edge. After stress relieving, the rough forged blade is ground to
final shape an size, with all lines, bevels and contours being
established. The guard is cut, shaped and fitted, then I thread the tang
for the pommel and drill pin and or rivet holes for the guard and handle.
The blade is stamped, heat treated, tempered and etched to clarify the
Damascus pattern. From here the guard is installed, handle material is
fitted and glued to the tang with the pommel glued and threaded or pinned
and silver soldered to the end. Once the glue has setup, the handle is
shaped, polished and finished. The final step is the actual sharpening
which starts out on a 400 grit belt sander and ends with a fine
stone. |
| GH Knives strives for perfection in every
blade, and works hard at making the last knife better than the one that
proceeded it. Our guarantee is simple, if the original
purchaser is not satisfied with any knife purchase, for any reason,
simply return it within 90 days and GH Knives will refund or exchange it
for the original purchase price. GH knives will not be responsible for
secondary work added to any purchase or for any damage due to abuse after
the original purchase. |
| Special Note: A
properly beveled and sharpened edge for cutting meat and hide is not
designed for cutting nails and bolts or piercing metal. I suggest that if
you plan to cut metal or bone, you buy a saw. |
